The 'Hungarian Sea' - The Lake Balaton

With the surface of almost 600 sqare km, the lake Balaton s the biggest natural lake in Central Europe. Its length is 75 km, width is between 1,5 and 12 km. The lake is narrowed to 1,5 km at the Tihany peninsula. Its average depth is 3 m. The lake gets warm in a short time especially on the flat, sandy southern part at the first rays of the spring sun. Brave vacationers can have a bath in a 17-18 C water at the end of May. In summer period the water temperature easily gets 27-28 C. When the weather turns cooler, the mediterranean micro climate can offer a pleasant surprise: the water temperature gets higher than the air temperature.

However the Balaton is the most popular during the Summer, all seasons have their sights and program opportunities in the region. In Spring and in Autumn visitors can take a walk in the small towns ad the forests around the lake, following the many tourist routes, it is also a highly popular horseriding and hunting resort. In Winter, the ice of the lake is excellent for ice skating or ice sailing.

Even one long weekend can be enough to enjoy this wonderful region!

We are ont the water-side, so the fans of water sports can find first what they would like to do - surfing, sailing, water skiing, boating, kayaking, angling, the indicated tourist routes and look-out towers of the Hévíz hills tempt you to take longer trips. The bicycle road around the lake - wich has a starting point in Hévíz- connects the different beaches, so during cycling you can even plash into the cool waves. Of course, we cannot only go beathing by bike.

The region and the lake Balaton offers various freetime activities after the morning cure sessions. It feels great to bath in the cool water of the lake on a hot summer day. Our guests can take bicycle or walking trips on the bicycle roads around the lake. There are several walking paths in different environments and directions.

The name of the lake Balaton is commonly connected with sailing. You can experience it if you come with us - we invite you to a siling trip on the lake. Feel the silence and calmness what only the open water can provide, smell the fresh water and hear the noises of the sail, the wind and the water - and let it fill your body and mind.

Programs

We ofer a wide range of hiking trips and free time activities - it is hard to make a list of them due to the lack of space. All of our guests can find a detailed program description in the Information Guide of the pension.

It is worth to start with the sights and places of interest of the neighbouring Kezsthely and the nearby lake Balaton. Keszthely is the cultural capitol of the Balaton region. One of the most beautiful monuments of the country is the Festetics Mansion, a symbol of the town. Today it is a museum and provides a place for many cultural programs such as classical music concerts and thetrical performances. Stepping through the wrought iron gates of the mansion, visitors enter the pedestrianed main street of Keszthely. It is worth to spend some time here, wondering the baroque buildings and have some coffee in one of the intimate cafés, throwing some coins into the hat of one of the street musicians, or checking out the work of the portrait drawer artists.

On the northern bank of the lake Balaton one can also find a variation of silent bays or busy beaches. In summers, it is a paradise for those on recreating vacation, but it is easy to find beauties in nature in the silent periods. It is a short trip by car to the Tihany peninsula to enjoy the most beautiful sight of the lake Balaton.
